
Filled with swings, slides, and climbing nets, playgrounds can be found all around Singapore and they offer exhilarating thrills for kiddos of all ages. Sadly, outdoor sand playgrounds are becoming less common to find, with many being replaced by water playgrounds to cool kids down from the heat. If you’re looking for old-school sandpit playgrounds for some sandcastle-building fun, here are the best places you can still venture to!

The latest extension of Singapore’s iconic Botanic Gardens, COMO Adventure Grove houses a nature-based playground with play elements inspired by forest canopies, jungle trails, and Singapore’s diverse flora. Highlights of this playground include a giant sandpit that sits amidst lush greenery centered around a towering 10-meter banyan tree. This Grove is augmented by sprawling branches, created with bespoke specialists Kinetics, who transformed steel posts into hand-painted tree bark-textured trunks! For Tarzan fans, this area is a real treat, as with a real Banyan tree, the Banyan tree tower is recreated to have similar veins and props. Scale, swing, or rest amongst the 13 branches fitted with climbing ropes, swings, circular nets, and hammocks for kids of all ages. Two long tube slides at 4 meters and 2.1 meters, designed for speed and thrills, allow kiddos to exit the canopy with an adrenaline-pumping ride that’ll have them clambering up for more.

For a spacious playground, visit the one at West Coast Park. The best part? Both kids and adults will enjoy the playground features alike! There are swings, zip lines, balancing platforms and two huge slides that will excite older kids, while parents can also join in the fun to try the huge spiderweb structure and obstacle course. For younger kids, there are educational panels around the area too.

Jurong Lake Gardens was only constructed in recent years, but they included sand at the playground to give it an old school feels. There are two-person swings, hammocks and a zip line to even make you feel like you’re on a camping trip! Besides the three huge tube slides, there are other activities like the low-rope area to train balance, blue building blocks to express creativity, and mini trampolines so they can jump from side to side.

Admiralty Park Playground has an extensive 26 slides encompassing both sand and cushioned flooring. Their dedicated sand play areas has pockets of sand under shade, so your little ones can make sandcastles without feeling overly hot under the weather. Other features of the playground include kids sinks, toilets and pathways for kid cyclists and skaters.

Playgrounds tend to be colorful, but Sembawang Park’s playground is mostly one-tone and made from wood. It’s also structured to look like a ship, so kids can be the captain of their own adventure! They’ll have a ball of a time at the two slides, rope bridges and upper viewing decks. As a bonus, the playground provides plenty of shade so your kid won’t be overly exposed to the heat while they play.

Families with kids living in the Tiong Bahru area will definitely love the playground at the neighborhood park. Not only does the sand playground have all the basics of a playground, but the main structure is shaped like a train too! There are also unique additions like a monkey bar, a flying fox, a mini maze and spring chairs in the shape of animals.

A stone’s throw from Fort Canning MRT lies Jubilee Park playground, a top choice to bring the kids for some outdoor adventures. With sand play, balancing logs and interesting structures, there are plenty of opportunities for kids to be engaged and expand their hand-eye coordination. After your play time, head over to nearby areas like Orchard or Clarke Quay for a wind-down meal.

HortPark has plenty of fun spots hidden around, which makes it worth a visit. Aside from swings, a colorful house-like set-up and ponds to admire, the main attraction of the playground has net ropes, balancing platforms and pirate-themed cut-out boards at the sand pit area. While the littles ones run freely, parents can find shade and cool down at the nearby seating areas.

There are plenty of activities you can get up to at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, including the sand playground located around the middle of the entire park. The sand playground is split into different parts, so no particular area will get overcrowded. There are low slides safe for younger children, a netted climbing area and a log walk to train balancing. There’s even a low rock climbing wall to give kids an introduction to bouldering!

Not only will you be mesmerized being in the gorgeous Gardens By The Bay, but you’ll also have tons of immersive fun at the Far East Organization Children’s Garden, featuring sand pits, water fountains and treehouses to explore. Not only is it suitable for kids up to 12 years old, but you can also cool down at the nearby Marina Bay Sands after.
