How Much Does It Cost To See The Big Buddha?
It’s free to climb the starts and visit the Buddha but if you want to go inside, there is a small fee. Also, if you are keen on enjoying a snack or lunch at the nearby Po Lin Monastery, you can purchase tickets to the right of the staircase leading up to The Big Buddha.
Made from bronze and sitting directly next to Po Lin Monastery, The Big Buddha is one of Hong Kong's top attractions. This massive statue sits next to Po Lin Monastery and symbolizes the harmonious relationship between man and nature, people, and faith. Families typically make a day out of visiting The Big Buddha. Climb the stairs to visit the Buddha, then head down for lunch at Po Lin Monastery. You can also take a short walk to The Wisdom Path which is a carved out trail lined with 38 wooden monuments inscribed with the Heart Sutra prayer and offering fabulous views of the ocean.

Getting To Big Buddha By Cable Car (Nyong Ping 360):
From May 27, 2020 - the Big Buddha cable car is open for visitors from (opening hours are 10am-6pm) so head on over! The cable car price for a standard cable car ride is HK$235 adults, HK$110 kids (ages 3-11), and free for kids under 3. Click here to purchase tickets and more information on pricing.
Hike To The Big Buddha:
There are a few ways to hike to the Big Buddha and all are recommended for more serious hiking families.
Nyong Ping Trail To Big Buddha: This is a 5.7km trail that connects Tung Chung to Nyong Ping (which is right in front of the Big Buddha). The hike follows the cable car route and has a lot of stairs and climbs but you can enjoy the "stairway to heaven" boardwalk built by Nyong Ping 360 which is a real treat. Lantau Peak To The Big Buddha: Want to hike Hong Kong's second highest peak straight into The Big Buddha. This is Stage 3 of the Lantau Trail and takes 3-4 hours in total. You will need to take a taxi or bus to Pak Kung Au where you will head in the direction of Lantau Peak (Sunset Peak takes you back to the Mui Wu ferry teriminal).
Getting To Big Buddha By Taxi And Car:
The Big Buddha is located on Lantau Island so note only green taxes are allowed to drive here. If you are self-driving, you can park at Citygate Outlets near the airport. If you want to take a taxi, you can taxi to Tung Chung and change to a green taxi to taxi to Big Buddha.
If you are looking for additional outings, adventures, or places to visit near The Big Buddha, there are plenty! The Ngong Ping Village is right next to The Big Buddha and offers shops, restaurants, and coffee shops galore. Families also enjoy visiting The Po Lin Nunnery nearby and they offer ongoing meditation retreats and events for those looking to explore Buddhism. Tai O is a nearby village made up of stilted homes and is famous for Hong Kong local snacks. If you are looking for a relaxed way to end the day - you can head over to Bathers Hong Kong for a beach vibe and alfresco dining option. Kayaks can be rented right next door - pack the swimsuits.
