Kowloon Veterinary Hospital (KVH) is the first dedicated rehabilitation clinic in Hong Kong. Their team is internationally trained, specializing in holistic Veterinary Physiotherapy, Rehabilitation, Acupuncture, and Pain Management, the only complete service of its kind carried out by qualified, caring professionals in Hong Kong.
The hospital is also equipped with surgical rooms, intensive care, an on-site laboratory, and a pharmacy. In addition, Kowloon Veterinary Hospital offers emergency, medical, surgical, dental care, and important preventative routine health checks. The entire team are professionally qualified and are experienced in treating dogs, cats, small furries, exotic pets, and more. As loving pet owners, the veterinarians at KVH believe it is important for customers to be aware of every stage of their pet’s therapy process.
WHAT IS OFFERED AT KOWLOON VETERINARY HOSPITAL:
Pet Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation
The purpose of pet physiotherapy and rehabilitation is to improve the comfort and mobility of pets. These treatments are used on animals who may be experiencing symptoms resulting from injury, after surgery, weight management, treating a chronic condition (i.e., osteoarthritis), and as preventative care. The rehabilitation team at KVH firstly assesses each patient’s medical condition and then treats using hydrotherapy, acupuncture, mat physical therapy, and laser therapy using new state-of-the-art equipment.
Hydrotherapy
The hospital’s hydro tank is one of only two in Hong Kong and allows for a much-improved hydrotherapy experience compared to swimming pools, which are more commonly offered. A built-in treadmill at the bottom of the tank makes it easy for four-legged patients to move at any speed, while trained professionals closely monitor progress through the tank’s glass walls. “Whether the goal is weight control or muscle strengthening, the hydro tank is the perfect tool for pet physiotherapy,” explains Dr. Roddam
Laser Therapy
KVH’s Laser therapy is a painless and non-invasive technique that relaxes muscles and releases endorphins making this treatment very comfortable for the pet. It can help rehabilitate patients with musculoskeletal pain, tissue swelling, inflammation, muscular strains and sprains, tendonitis, osteoarthritis, neurological conditions, and enhance skin wound healing. It can also pre-empt acupuncture, making the treatment more comfortable if an animal suffers from stiff muscles.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture provides pets with effective muscle relaxation and can be performed on cats (particularly receptive), dogs, rabbits, and other exotics. It can be especially effective for spinal diseases, such as slipped disks, in some cases offering a less stressful and affordable alternative to spinal surgery. While many Hong Kong clinics may offer pet acupuncture, Dr. Roddam is one of the SAR’s few qualified veterinarians specializing in the field.
Mat Physical Therapy
During mat exercise sessions, owners are invited to watch and shown how to replicate exercises at home. Practicing simple physical therapy tasks daily at home often leads to the best results for pets.
