    Pancake Recipes For Babies And Toddlers

    We love Katia's protein-packed banana and coconut pancakes! Founder of Omnivitality, Katia is a nutritional therapist at IMI in Hong Kong who is also passionate about creating healthy toddler recipes (always with some hidden veg in there somewhere!). This recipe is tried and tested by her toddler Michael who loves it (as do his parents)!

    Ingredients: (makes 6 pancakes)

    • 1 very ripe banana
    • pinch of cinnamon
    • 2 eggs (preferably free-range)
    • 3 tablespoons desiccated coconut
    • handful of blueberries
    • 1 scoop protein powder (optional)
    • 1 scoop collagen powder (optional)

    Method:

    1. Mash the bananas
    2. Stir in cinnamon and eggs
    3. Add the coconut
    4. Mix in the blueberries
    5. Fry in some coconut oil, flip and fry on the other side until golden
    6. Enjoy with maple syrup, berries, Greek yogurt

    Pancakes Perfect For Toddlers

    Yummy Toddler Food's website and social media is full of great ideas for meals and snacks for - you guessed it - toddlers! This recipe in particular, her banana oatmeal pancakes are filling and delicious, and can keep for up to three months in a freezer! If your little one is lactose-free, you can easily substitute with plant-based milk.

    Ingredients: (makes six pancakes)

    • 2 very ripe medium bananas (about 2 cups sliced)
    • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
    • 1/2 cup rolled oats
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 3 eggs
    • 1 cup milk (dairy or nondairy)
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 2 tablespoons butter

    Method: 

    1. Mash the bananas until smooth.
    2. Add bananas to a bowl with the rest of the ingredients except the butter. Gently stir together.
    3. Warm a nonstick or cast iron skillet over medium heat. Add a small bit of the butter, melt, and spread it around the pan.
    4. Drop ¼ cup fulls of batter onto the pan and spread out thinly to about 1/4-½ inch think. Cook for about 3 minutes or until you see bubbles on the surface on the pancake. Flip and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
    5. Continue to cook the rest of the batter.
    6. Serve with caramelized bananas, maple syrup, yogurt, nut butter or any toppings you fancy.

    Pancake Recipe For Babies & Toddlers

    Annabel Karmel is another household name that is huge in the baby and toddler nutrition world. She has her own app full of healthy recipes for snacks and meals (and suitable for every age) as well as a significant social media following. Her Caterpillar Pancakes are very simple to make and will add some fun to the breakfast table.

    Ingredients: (makes 8 large pancakes)

    • 200g self-raising flour
    • 1 tbsp caster sugar
    • 3 eggs
    • 175ml milk of choice
    • 1 tsp sunflower oil
    • Honey, to drizzle
    • 2 strawberries
    • Handful of blueberries

    Method:

    1. Measure the flour and sugar into a mixing bowl.
    2. Make a well in the centre and crack in the eggs.
    3. Carefully pour half the milk into the bowl and whisk everything together until you have a smooth batter. Slowly add the rest of the milk, whisking as you go.
    4. Place the oil in a frying pan over a medium heat. Add 2 large spoonfuls of the mixture and fry for 1–2 minutes on each side, until lightly golden and cooked through.
    5. Remove from the pan and place on a plate. Cover with a tea towel to keep warm while you make the rest. Continue until all the batter has been used up.
    6. Line up the pancakes to make a breakfast caterpillar – use slices of strawberry for the legs and mouth, and blueberries for eyes.

    Pancake Recipe For The Whole Family

    BBC Good Food's app and website is a treasure-trove of family-friendly recipes. This blueberry & orange traybake pancake recipe is really easy to make as you can just pop the mixture in the oven as you go about your tasks.

    Ingredients: (serves 6):

    • 1 tbsp melted unsalted butter, plus extra for the tin
    • 200g self-raising flour
    • 1 tsp baking powder
    • 1 egg
    • 250ml milk
    • 2 tbsp golden caster sugar
    • 1 large orange, zested and juiced
    • 150g blueberries
    • icing sugar, for dusting
    • extra blueberries, blueberry compote or ice cream, to serve (optional)

    Method: 

    1. Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Brush a 25 x 20 x 2cm baking tray with butter. Tip the flour and baking powder into a bowl and mix in the egg, milk, butter and caster sugar. Stir in the orange zest and 50ml juice.

    2. Scrape the mixture into the tin and level the surface. Dot the blueberries over the top and bake for 20 mins or until the middle of the pancake feels cooked through when pressed lightly. Dust with icing sugar and serve with more blueberries, blueberry compote or ice cream, if you like.

    Feeding Tiny Bellies is another big name in the toddler nutrition world and the website is great for finding simple recipes with babies and toddlers in mind that can easily be adaptable to the whole family. These cinnamon apple pancakes are no different!

    Ingredients: (makes 12 mini pancakes)

    • ½ cup unsweetened applesauce
    • ½ cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 egg
    • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
    • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
    • 1 tbsp maple syrup
    • ½ tsp baking powder
    • butter/oil to grease pan

    Method:

    1. Preheat a frying pan on low heat and add in a little butter/oil.
    2. Stir together the dry ingredients.
    3. Add in the egg, unsweetened applesauce, maple syrup, and vanilla and mix until just combined.
    4. Spoon out tablespoon amounts of batter and form small circles on a greased pan to cook.
    5. Once bubbles begin to form, flip over the pancakes and cook for a couple of minutes on the other side.

    Babyfoode's Easy Spinach Pancakes

    Pancake Recipes For Babies And Toddlers

    Babyfoode's Easy Spinach Pancakes are an ingenious way to sneak some veg into your baby or toddler's breakfast all while making it delicious and sweet!

    Ingredients: (makes 10 small pancakes)

    • 1 cup old-fashioned oats, see notes
    • 1 cup spinach, not packed
    • 1 ripe banana
    • 1 egg or flax egg
    • 1/2 cup milk of choice, regular, coconut, almond, hemp, etc
    • 2 tbsp coconut oil, olive oil or melted butter
    • 1 tsp cinnamon
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract
    • 2 tsp baking powder
    • 1/4 tsp salt

    Method:

    1. Blend Oats: In a blender, place the oats and pulse on medium speed for 30 seconds or until oats are a flour consistency.
    2. Add Ingredients: Add in the spinach, banana, egg, milk, oil, cinnamon and vanilla extract and blend on high for 30-60 seconds or until batter is completely smooth and the spinach is completely broken down, scraping down the sides of the blender if needed.
    3. Add in Baking Powder: Add in the baking powder and salt and blend on low for 20 seconds.
    4. Cook: Heat a non-stick pan or pancake griddle over medium to medium-low heat. Pour 2-3 tablespoons of batter onto the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes or until tiny bubbles appear on the outside of the pancake. Flip and cook for an additional 2 minutes. If batter gets too thick, add in a tablespoon at a time of milk and re-blend until you have the right consistency.
    5. Continue: Transfer pancakes to a cooling rack and repeat the process until you have used all of the batter.
    6. Serve and enjoy!
