Kellett School is a British International School with a UK style education for the English speaking community in Hong Kong. They have a broad curriculum embracing 21st century learning, creativity, the arts and sports, whilst taking into account their unique position in South East Asia at the gateway to China. Their Senior School is nurturing some of the most talented students in Hong Kong.
Kellett School was founded in 1976, the Chinese Year of the Fire Dragon. The school is a stakeholder in Hong Kong and is very much a part of its neighborhood and the wider community with whom it maintains excellent links. Over its history, it has experienced the highs and lows of Hong Kong’s development and yet it has been supported by a strong following of committed families, staff members, companies and others. The school also enjoys active partnerships with other local and international schools, community groups, charities and government bodies and these further strengthen the school.
Kellett Preparatory School Curriculum (ages 3 to 11) follows the Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 & Key Stage 2. The Senior School Curriculum (ages 11 to 18) follows Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 & Key Stage 5 (English National Curriculum). Students can choose from a selection of languages including Mandarin, French, German, Spanish, and Latin. At IGCSE students choose between 8-11 subjects and for A-Level between 3 and 4.
The Senior School follows the national curriculum of England and does IGCSEs and A-levels. Small classes and a low student-teacher ratio ensures students are able to work closely and effectively with their teachers. Students in the Senior School are confident and successful individuals, who take responsibility for their learning and actions, respect others and celebrate the differences and diversity they find in the world around them.
The Art curriculum focuses upon building a wide range of skills in a breadth of disciplines that encompasses drawing, painting, printmaking, photography and sculpture. Students are taught to analyze the works of other artists and are encouraged to visit galleries both in Hong Kong and whilst traveling overseas. Throughout the year they offer a number of drama workshops. These are targeted to build on the skills developed in curriculum drama but also to provide extension work. A large number of theatre trips also provide drama enrichment to the student population. The Music Suite includes an Apple Music Technology Suite, Rehearsal and Ensemble Rooms, Professional Theatre and Music Library. A dedicated team of Music and Theatre Technicians also support the students, staff and school. When students do sport, they develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics, strategies and compositional ideas to perform successfully. They work as individuals, in groups and in teams, developing concepts of fairness and of personal and social responsibility.
Students can embrace leadership opportunities from their first day in Year 7 and are continuously encouraged to learn and apply leadership skills within the Curriculum, House System and Extra-Curricular Activities as they journey through to the Sixth Form. The Head Boy and Girl positions alongside their deputies and the four House Captains are regarded very much as figureheads for the student body. They will further enhance the relationships between staff and students, making sure that the student voice is heard and to act as public representatives of the student body.
After growing the Senior School year-on-year since its conception in 2007, Kellett became a full through-train school in August 2014, offering education to students aged 4-18 years old. Since then, Kellett students have received a number of university offers from prestigious establishments from around the world including; University of Cambridge, University of Manchester, University of Birmingham, UCL, University of Edinburgh and University of Melbourne. A proud achievement for any school, and one that Kellett, as a non-selective school, will look to continue to build upon in years to come.
