Mount Kelly School In Hong Kong

Opened in 2017, Mount Kelly Hong Kong is the first overseas sister school of Mount Kelly in the UK. Mount Kelly Hong Kong is an all-through British school with British qualified teachers offering the English National Curriculum in a personalised environment with rigorous maths and Chinese programs. They offer classes for children in Playgroup (Babies & Toddlers), Nursery, Preschool, Primary, and Secondary. Students at Mount Kelly Hong Kong benefit significantly from the school’s small class setting (maximum class size of 15 students), which helps all students reach academic excellence! At Mount Kelly, they want to discover the unique potential in every child and they can accomplish it thanks to their small class sizes.
EAL program
At Mount Kelly, English is the language of instruction. However, they understand that English may not be the first language for all their students. Therefore they offer the EAL program (English as an Additional Language) to those students who require assistance.
Mount Kelly’s EAL program is based on Cambridge English, which aims for students to enhance their English while ensuring that all students can keep up with their curriculum. Primary students receive EAL support inside the classroom, while Secondary students have access to EAL-adapted lessons for specific subjects, such as history and science. As part of the admissions procedures, they will assess the student’s English ability and have a personalized plan ready for when they start at Mount Kelly.
Chinese Curriculum
At Mount Kelly Hong Kong, Mandarin is a core component of their student’s education. Mandarin is taught using traditional characters and in two different streams – for native and for non-native speakers. It is taught as early as Primary under Specialist Lesson. This lesson is conducted by specialist teachers who work with the class teachers integrating the curriculum and ensuring specialist subjects are also part of the topic approach. Mount Kelly’s Chinese program is accredited and cross-curricular, preparing students to take the Chinese subject as part of their IGCSEs.
Small Class Sizes
Mount Kelly Hong Kong has a small class size environment with a maximum of 15 students per class. This helps the teachers to tailor-make the lessons to meet the needs of every student. This limit of 15 students in every class, results in a 1:8 teacher to student ratio (including a teaching assistant)! This is the ideal environment to receive personalised learning. Teachers adapt their lessons to the needs of every student, also helping those students from different education systems.
