There’s a new school we’re excited to talk about that’s specifically for kids with Autism. This specialist school provides a rigorous curriculum that deals with all of your child’s needs.
Aoi Pui School provides a specialized Autism-specific curriculum for children at varying functioning levels. The diverse school curriculum is individualized for every student, based upon their own merits, with a focus on Autism-related deficit areas.
Students at APS follow Autism-specific guidelines in an adapted national curriculum approved by the Education Department. While they are learning academic subjects such as Language and Mathematics, Aoi Pui School provides them with training on Behavioral Management skills, Self-help skills, Problem-Solving skills, Social skills, Abstract Thinking, etc. They prepare them for an academic life but also a balanced social life with teachers and peers.
Not all subjects are taught in school premises. Since community training is an integral part of the curriculum, APS supplements teaching in monthly outing and field trips so students may learn about the monthly school themes through different channels, in different environments.
Aoi Pui School also provides Individual Therapy Services and Home Visit Programs for school students.
*Individual Therapy, in 1 teacher to 1 student ratio, enables concentrated and intensive teaching on specific skills. While it may supplement daily lessons at school, it will also cover domestic skills which are less emphasized in the school curriculum. These sessions are offered as an after-school program every Monday and Wednesday.
*Home Visits Program allows parents and lead class teacher to work on some difficult, domestic issues at home.
Every child’s education is tailor-made at Aoi Pui School. Their child-specific curriculum aims to bridge the developmental gap between their current skills level and typical development. After consultation with parents, teachers will administer an informal assessment in the first week of school to identify what specific skills the child has and what skills needs to be taught. A monthly Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is designed accordingly, with specific learning objectives individualized to their symptoms.
This is a great school for kids with autism and with only 8-10 students per class, and a 1 teacher to 2 student ratio. The tuition fee is HK$24,000 per month.
Children with autism aged 4 years 8 months and above.
In the monthly parent meeting, teachers will explain and discuss the child’s progress and the updated program with the help of the data and videos taken throughout the month. Parents can raise concerns and provide input on their child’s program goals. That way, all relevant parties are informed at all times how the child is progressing.
