Paved all the way but with a definite gradient, the Morning Trail is a pleasant 2800m walk from the end of Conduit Road up to the Peak Circle Walk and round to the Peak Tram terminus. Simply head up Hatton Road, which starts opposite the entrance to Hong Kong University, and keep on going. Lined with vegetation, there are breaks in the greenery which reveal the splendor of Hong Kong’s skyscrapers on both sides of the island below – and it only gets better the higher you go.
The Morning Trail, as it’s name suggests, is a great way to start the day. Yet it’s as pleasant at night as it is during the day – the path is well lit and the views from the top on a clear evening show off a sparklier side of Hong Kong.
Those who want to work for their views will enjoy the charge uphill, while the route downhill is a pleasant alternative to taking the tram or bus. This is a stroller-friendly walk.
A few sites of interest or alternative paths line the route up the Morning Trail including the Pinewood Battery where magazine buildings and concrete gun emplacements dating back to 1903 can be found. At the top, you can enjoy Mount Austin Playground which is one of the best in the city.
