Situated in the heart of the city, The National Monument or more popularly called “Monas” is an excellent place to visit. Monas is a legendary icon of Jakarta city, the 137-meter tall marble obelisk is topped with a flame coated with 35kg of gold. The monument gives you good historical information on Indonesia. You can see at the base of the monument, there is a museum that portrays the life and history of Indonesia where you can see images of Indonesia’s historical past in chronological order. The museum hall describes Indonesia’s struggle for independence through a series of dioramas. Going to the top of the monument, you can enjoy a great view of Jakarta from there. The views of the monument against a sunset sky, is magnificent and spectacular. You have not been to Jakarta if you haven’t visited Monas. The monument is open daily from 8 am to 3 pm.
This place is cool to spend time with the kids to see the history of Indonesia in the basement or to see Jakarta from its highest place. After visiting the museum, walk around the park. It’s very neat and tidy, a pleasant and safe place to take a stroll in.

The monument is open for the public from 8am to 5pm. Upon request the lift can carry visitors to the top. It is best to come early in the morning and not on the weekend or public holiday. The best way to get there is by taxi, the cheapest and most convenient.
