Nothing beats the first-hand experience kids will get at the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre’s School of Hard Knocks. During the 30-minute workshop, armed with a pewtersmith’s traditional tools (a hammer and a wooden mold), kids will craft a pewter dish they can proudly take home. They will also have their dish engraved and receive a personalized certificate of completion. It will, most definitely, be the highlight of your little ones’ visit to the centre. Over at the Foundry, join your older kids and have fun mastering, in a one-hour workshop, the fundamentals of pewter crafting – from casting and polishing to decorating your very own accessory. The Visitor Centre is a one-stop for all things pewter – prepare to be enlightened by the brand’s history through a visit to their museum and gallery; and for an insight into pewter making, join the guided tour of their pewter factory.
Hungry? There’s a café, serving a fine selection of cakes, sandwiches and pastas, overlooking a garden. Yum!
The Royal Selangor Visitor Centre pays tribute to the Royal Selangor heritage and houses some very precious and intriguing pewter pieces.
Any 4-year- old (and up) can play a pewtersmith at the School of Hard Knocks; while The Foundry workshop welcomes participants 15 years (and above). Register online for the workshops.
Be sure to get photographed with the world’s largest pewter tankard at the centre’s entrance. How cool!
