Are you and your family keen sailors, or are you contemplating taking your pint-sized pirates to the high seas to learn how to sail? Singapore’s thriving sailing community welcomes sailors from complete novices to wave-weary sea dogs. Various clubs around the island will provide budding sailors with the proper training, courses, boats and know-how. Choose from beginner courses, bareback charters, regatta training and solo dingy racing; there’s something for everyone. Put some wind in your sails, head to the coast and enjoy a foray into the fun world of sailing.
The Singapore Sports Council endorses the four-day introductory sailing Kids Afloat Program for children and teens from seven to 15 years. The club has various boats such as Optimists, Toppers and Laser Picos. Each student received a certificate, tee-shirt and SAF membership for a year. Membership includes using the swimming pool, food and beverage facilities, the member's lounge and the gymnasium. Not only will your kids meet a bunch of new friends, but they will also have fun learning and embark on a life-long journey of a love of sailing.

The Singapore Sailing Federation offers various Opti sailing courses, including Junior, Sailor, Racer and Star, depending on your child’s experience and skill set. The Opti courses are a great way to introduce children to the sport of sailing in a non-competitive setting, starting with the basics and explorative skills to competition standards. Opti Junior is an introduction to sailing for kids and teens between seven and 12; the courses will help build their confidence and independence through inspiring and fun lessons. The children learn in pairs in an Optimist to understand how boats work, navigate the winds and discover sea creatures in their exciting new environment. It’s a great way to ease the youngsters away from their techy gadgets.
