Singapore may be small, but its rich culture, fascinating history, and dedicated nature reserves mean you’ll never run out of places to explore. However, when traveling with family, it can be a little hard to keep everyone on the same page, and with our city slowly opening up soon, we’ve got to find virtual means to ‘walk’ with the kids to explore. Little Steps has put together a list of some of the virtual walking tours available at this time that offer a little something for everyone from little ones to big kiddos and of course, Mom & Dad. Featuring nature reserves to historical sights, beautiful architecture to food delights, these walking tours offer an interesting and fun approach to discovering Singapore. Here we go!

Don't let the title of the activity hold you back, but this would be the perfect tour of nature in Singapore for you and kids to embark on. How does it work? Simply register for a challenge and provide evidence that you have done it. The evidence can be a screenshot of your running app showing the map, time of the walk/run, and kilometers ran. If your kids have trackers, that'll be perfect too! This challenge requires you to walk or run for at least 2.5km past some of Singapore’s prettiest landmarks. Once your walk/run is verified, you will receive your medal with free delivery! Walk along Singapore River, explore the Rail Corridor, Southern Ridges, or Marina Bay. Register here.

There's nothing like an art and food self-guided walking tour with the family during this time. This trail is about exploring the Katong-Joo Chiat neighborhood that showcases the Peranakan culture. Explore the murals within the neighborhood that tell a story about the history of Katong and Joo Chiat. This trail features 2 routes, a short route and a long route. Both routes are easy to maneuver even for the little tots. You can easily pick up food and snacks at the various eateries along the way too! Flash your KJC Circuit map to enjoy food and shopping privileges.

Another walk for nature loving families, the Sungei Buloh walking tour will take you right into the heart of Singapore’s abounding natural beauty. Sungei Buloh is a wetland reserve home to animals such as kingfishers, mudskippers and monitor lizards all year round. During the Northern hemisphere’s winter months (September to March), it also welcomes thousands of migratory birds escaping the cold to play in the warm muddy mangroves. Sungei Buloh offers a chance for the whole family to lay eyes on animals rarely seen in the concrete jungle of the city and delight in all that Tropical Wetlands have to offer. Sungei Buloh Walks run on Saturdays from 9:30am to 11am and are limited to 20 people, so be sure to register. While usually run in English, once a month the tours are offered in Mandarin or Japanese as well.

You won't be really experiencing Singapore if you don't embark on a walking food trail! Yes, food is the essence of our city and Balestier is a neighborhood worth discovering. With a history spanning 180 years, this little enclave still plays host to significant cultural landmarks, traditional trades, plus being a food haven that embodies Singapore's diverse heritage. Sample delectable local delights while walking along the streets. Download the food trail booklet here and be on your way!
