TraceTogether Contact Tracing App In Singapore
Help detect the spread of COVID-19 in Singapore
The Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Singapore Government Technology Agency, have developed an app called TraceTogether to help with COVID-19 contact tracing. This app makes it quicker and easier to contact those who may have potentially been exposed to the disease. So let’s do our part to help and download the TraceTogether app!
How does it work?
TraceTogether uses Bluetooth technology to detect and share your proximity and duration of contact with another user of the app. This is stored in a log on each users’ phone and can be sent to MOH if the phone owner tests positive for COVID-19. This can then be used to identify those people also running the app who have come into close contact and may have potentially contracted the virus.
What do I need to do?
Setting up the TraceTogether app is pretty simple. Download the app, enter your mobile number, key in the code sent to your mobile, turn on Bluetooth and you are good to go! You won’t need to do anything else unless you test positive for COVID-19, in which case MOH will contact you with instructions on how to upload the log from your phone.
Why should I download it?
The quicker that COVID-19 infections can be traced, the quicker we can stop the spread of the virus throughout Singapore. The TraceTogether app greatly helps with this, so the more people that use it, the better it is! If you haven’t already downloaded it now is the time, especially as circuit breaker restrictions lift and we are all out in the community more.
What about my privacy?
For those concerned about privacy, here are a couple of key facts about the TraceTogether app:
- The TraceTogether app does not track your location.
- The only information you provide during sign up is your mobile number. This is not shared with any other TraceTogether app users (a random unique ID is shared instead).
- Data is stored on your phone in a secure (encrypted) manner for a rolling 21 days.
- The data collected by the app can only be decrypted by MOH (with consent) and used for the purposes of contact tracing.
