Discover Outdoor Learning At GESS – International School

How The Forest School Approach Is Part Of GESS' Preschool Life

Preschool Outdoors GESS Singapore

At GESS’ Preschool, teachers use Forest School Learning to develop children’s confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning exploration in a local woodland or natural environment.

This long-term holistic approach is delivered through regular sessions with nature and the outdoors being the main part of experiential learning. Qualified practitioners, trained in child development and learning theories, observe children at play and create different learning outcomes for each student through extended play and inquiry.

For example, if a child shows interest in creating a shelter, the educator can provide ropes, sticks and other materials to help create the desired.

Why does GESS embrace this approach? Nature has been shown to have numerous positive effects on children’s well-being, including reducing stress, promoting physical activity, and fostering creativity and imagination.

Interacting with nature helps children develop an appreciation for the environment and a sense of connection to the natural world. This is very much in GESS’ DNA to nurture future generations who can contribute to tomorrow’s world, by respecting the community, environment, individuals, diverse cultures, and more.

Forest School Learning can be applied to all age groups and abilities. Their early childhood educators can expertly incorporate elements of forest school into daily routines, uncovering each child’s unique potential and facilitating customised learning opportunities.

Being strategically located within walking distance to Dairy Farm Nature Park enhances their ability to expose our kids to the wonders of tropical nature in Singapore.
