In 2025, Tanglin will launch the Highlands Programme, based at Tanglin Gippsland, a new 15-acre sustainable campus on the edge of Baw Baw National Park, Victoria. The Programme provides a very different experiential learning experience from the typical co-curricular trips and expeditions that students at international schools in Singapore go on.

Tanglin understands that at this age, it’s important to not just develop academic knowledge but also essential life skills, confidence in learning, and a sense of belonging to a larger community.
The new 5 week Highlands Programme has been designed to encompass these aims and students will experience a healthy mix of learning both in and outside the classroom. Studies will be tailored to maximize experiences in the natural environment and broaden perspectives. Students will gain a new perspective from their learning environment, as they spend time finding out more about the history and geography of the area from both Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspectives.
Disconnected from devices, students will spend most of their time outdoors, whether participating in daily fitness activities or expeditions in the region.
The culmination of The Highlands Programme will be a Rite of Passage experience, where students will be tested to apply all the skills they have acquired during their transformative 5 weeks of independent living. Returning to Singapore students can draw on their experiences, with memories of camping adventures, tramping in the bush with friends, and hopefully come away with a lasting sense of adventure.
The unique residential program in the Australian bush will offer students a digital detox to foster mindfulness and strengthen personal connections. The many outdoor experiences will help build personal resilience and camaraderie amongst friends.
The Highlands Programme is specifically designed to empower Year 9 students to apply skills they have learnt to date during their time in Middle School, and also challenge them to develop new ones.
Created for current and future students, this ambitious endeavor from Tanglin demonstrates its ongoing commitment to providing a holistic education that values experiences outside of the classroom to help better prepare students for the wider world.
