The name “New Bahru” (Bahru meaning “New” in Malay) reflects the project’s aim to foster a fresh creative community, embracing the local flair for emphasizing words through repetition, such as swee swee, play-play, and jalan jalan.
New Bahru stands out with its curatorial approach, emphasizing unique concepts and strong community bonds. It gathers change-makers from various fields, each pushing the envelope in their own way. Collaborating with leading design studios like Hjgher, Wynk, and Parable, every brand takes on its boldest challenge yet—pioneering new-to-market concepts, adding innovative twists to traditional expansions, or transforming online ventures into physical experiences.
Exciting Highlights of New Bahru:
- Dearborn: Known for its granola, Dearborn launches its flagship store, featuring a micro bakery, breakfast provision shop, and all-day breakfast cafe.
- Beyond The Vines Design House: This multidisciplinary design studio, celebrated for its bold yet simple designs, opens its largest store in Singapore, offering customization services and special product lines.
- soilboy: Dedicated to connecting people with nature, this plant design studio launches its first experience store with innovative plant installations and immersive hands-on workshops.
- Morning: Opening its first physical store, Morning creates a coffee destination for specialty capsule coffee from around the world, offering a unique retail experience with sampling sessions, workshops, and events.
- Kiztopia Prestige: A new haven for young adventurers, Kiztopia Prestige features immersive role-play rooms and workshops, focusing on holistic development with diverse soft play concepts and regular programs tailored for children aged 4 and below.
Alma House: A New Hospitality Experience
Joining the vibrant New Bahru community is Alma House, an 83-key serviced apartment. The name Alma, inspired by the alma mater, pays homage to the historic school grounds it occupies. Designed by FARM, the same architects behind New Bahru’s rejuvenation, Alma House blends old-world charm with modern comforts.
Guests at Alma House will enjoy an extended experience beyond the room, showcasing Singapore’s creative talent. In-room amenities, dining, and wellness experiences will be available through special packages and collaborations with neighboring New Bahru brands. Alma House partners with homegrown furniture brand Castlery to integrate selected pieces into the rooms and lobby lounge, periodically refreshing the space to feature the latest seasonal collections.
