Just a 45 minute boat ride away from Marina Bay lies clear blue waters and sandy beaches to have the perfect overnight camping experience at. You might even forget that you’re in Singapore for a bit. Come nightfall, you can have your own picnic under the stars. There are six designated areas for camping, and even a convenience store for your necessities too!

Just a stone’s throw from Lazarus Island, St John’s Island is another alternative to have an overnight stay with the family. Unlike Lazarus Island, St John’s Island does not have a convenience store, so it’s advisable to bring along your own snacks and meals to sustain your stay. But to make up for it, spend the day splashing in the waters and getting sandy by your campsite.

East Coast Park is the perfect place to pitch a tent if you want to try your hand at camping but don’t want to get out of your comfort zone too much. Camping is allowed in Area D and Area G with a permit, where you will find public toilets, shower blocks and BBQ pits that you can book from SG$16 per pit. If you want some great food, there is Lagoon hawker centre, seafood restaurants and McDonald’s to fill your appetite. The little ones will also love the bunch of activities available like swimming, cycling, the Xtreme SkatePark, or cable skiing.

If East Coast Park is too noisy for your liking, perhaps Pasir Ris Park will be up you and family’s alley instead. The quieter beach and park has two camping grounds to stay overnight and be one with nature. Kids will love to get lost in the Pasir Ris Park Maze or go for a ride on a pony at Gallop Stables, as well as waking up at sunrise to the sound of birds chirping all around you. The best part? It’s walking distance from the MRT station, making it an extremely convenient option.

Pulau Ubin Island is the place to camp if you want to escape the city, and it’s just a 10 minute ferry ride from Changi Point Ferry. Kick it old school with the kiddos – making shelter through a “kampong” camping experience with basic facilities. There are two main campsites you can choose from: Jelutong and Mama, both of which you can hike or cycle around and discover over 100 hectares of surrounding wetlands.

If camping alone doesn’t sound too exciting, perhaps the facilities at West Coast Park will entice and convince the kids for an overnight stay in nature. Area 3 is the main camping grounds, which is perfect since it’s located near shops and dining, as well as the Adventure Playground that boasts an obstacle course, flying fox and maze.

“Hantu” translates to “ghost” in Malay, but if you’re not superstitious and are ready to brave nature in its full glory, Pulau Hantu will reward campers with a hearty experience. The nearly untouched beach has white sandy beaches where you can do water sports and snorkelling. The only way to access the island is by a private boat from Marina South Pier or West Coast Pier.

Although you can’t stay overnight on Sentosa, you can pitch a tent and enjoy the camping life until 7pm. With multiple beaches you can choose from, you can spend the day with the kids playing volleyball or just making sandcastles. You won’t have to rough it out either – there are plenty of public showers and food options around.

If you want to camp with animals, the Singapore Zoo actually offers the chance for you to do so! Open to campers aged 5 years old and above, and available from SG$1699 for a family of 4, this camping experience will be one to remember. You’ll be sleeping in an outdoor dome tent, with activities like animal presentations and curated dinners in the lineup. The experience is only available during selected dates in the year, so keep a lookout for that!
