Have you ever heard of geocaching? If you’re an outdoor enthusiast and are looking for ways to spice up your hikes, walks or runs, geocaching is just the thing for you! Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity that can be played anywhere, in which some participants hide containers, or “geocaches”, in publicly accessible places, and other participants look for them, with the help of hints and GPS coordinates. It’s a little like a global treasure hunt, and the prize isn’t anything material but the thrill of discovery. Once you’ve found what you were on the lookout for, remember to leave your name behind on the log sheets within the hidden cache!
If you live near Sembawang, this is a good opportunity for you to learn the history behind this town! Want to hear of the old helipad bunker lying in the midst of Sembawang or the tales behind the origins of its name? Come relive the long lost history of the Malay Kampong Community in the northern area of Singapore. Camp Challenge is organising this exclusive journey using Augmented Reality and you can sign up for a spectacular time too. Tickets cost SGD$50 for 2 pax and this is a kid-friendly activity so the whole family can participate. Do check out the official website for more details and to register your participation.

Pokemon Go became wildly popular in Singapore over the last 5 years or so, especially during the pandemic era because this game allows you to go off and have fun on your own. While this might not be a typical example of geocaching, we think it's still a great treasure hunt, with quirks of its own. Once you download the mobile app, as users walk around the real world, Pokémon characters appear on the game map. If you come within a close, specific Pokémons will appear on your device screen and you can throw Poké Balls at them to capture them. Ultimately, the aim of the game is to collect as many different characters as possible. We think it's a good way to clock in some additional steps especially if you're already outdoors!

If you're looking for an app for your geocaching fun, we recommend Geocaching, a free app you can download from your mobile store. The free version lets you search for geocaches by location, type (Traditional or Event only), tracking code, and GeoTours. You can also view a geocache’s difficulty and terrain rating, read its description, message the person who placed it, share geocaches with others, and log whether you found it. The premium version offers more but you'll have to pay an annual subscription fee. For more information do visit their main webpage! Sign up and join the world's largest treasure hunt!
