Get hopping! Singapore…your next family island escape is a simple car ride away from the city! Pack up the kidlings, snatch a taxi and head to the pier…it’s time to explore Sibu Island.
Pulau Sibu (also known as Sibu Island) is a tiny island packed with hammocks, sand, and snorkeling waters off the Eastern coast of Malaysia. To get there, you can take a Singapore taxi to the border, switch to a Malaysian taxi in Johor Bahru and then cruise to the Tanjong Leman jetty. It is here where your resort will pick your family up…and jet you across the South China Sea to unspoiled beaches and hammock happenings.
STAY: There are a limited number of places to stay so book up early! Sea Gypsy Village Resort(complete with Sea Gypsy Kids Club), and Sari Pacifica Hotel and Spa are located on the beach across Tinggi Island. You can also stay at Rimba Resort on the opposite side of the island. Coconut Village Resort and Twin Beach Resort all face the mainland.
PLAY: The area is a Marine Park so there is plenty of scuba diving and snorkeling here! Get on the water with sea kayaks and other water toys. Lounging in hammocks and enjoying the tunes at the local resort bar at sunset will also keep the smiles alive. If you are looking to explore the local culture, you can visit the small fishing village on the southern side of the island. Little fisherman looking to hook a marlin or two can arrange private fishing trips. Trekking in the rainforest is also popular (many are short 20-minute treks and easy for little steppers) just be sure and bring insect repellent.
